GST Guide
Not every GST taxpayer has a choice, here's exactly who needs DSC and who can use Aadhaar e-Sign instead.
Companies and LLPs are legally required to use DSC for GST filing, Aadhaar e-Sign is not an option for them. Individual proprietors and partnership firms generally have the choice between Aadhaar-based e-Sign (OTP verification) and DSC.
Even where Aadhaar e-Sign is technically allowed, many businesses prefer DSC because it doesn't depend on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number being active and reachable at the moment of filing, works offline once issued (no OTP delivery delays), and is the same certificate you likely already need for MCA, Income Tax or ICEGATE, one DSC covers everything.
If you're filing as a company or LLP, registering a new GSTIN for a corporate entity, or your authorized signatory setup specifically requires certificate-based signing, DSC is mandatory, not a preference.
Whether DSC is required for your entity type or you simply prefer it over Aadhaar OTP delays, we issue Class 3 DSCs same-day.
Generally yes, individual proprietors typically have the choice, though DSC remains a valid and often more reliable option.
Both are legally recognized signing methods, DSC's certificate-based approach doesn't rely on OTP delivery, which can be a practical advantage during time-sensitive filings.
Yes, there's no restriction on switching signing methods for future filings once you have a DSC.
