DSC Basics
You don't create a digital signature yourself, it's issued by a government-licensed Certifying Authority after verifying your identity. Here's the complete process.
Unlike a scanned signature or an image-based e-signature, a legally valid Digital Signature Certificate can only be issued by a Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) licensed Certifying Authority, such as eMudhra, Capricorn CA, vSign or SpeedSign. This is what gives it legal standing under the IT Act, 2000: your identity has been formally verified before the certificate is issued.
This is the same process regardless of which CA ultimately issues your certificate.
Individual or Organisation, and Signing, Encryption or Combo, based on what you'll be using it for.
PAN, Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and (for organizations) company incorporation and authorization documents.
A short recorded video call verifies your identity against your Aadhaar and PAN details.
Once verification passes, the CA generates and issues your certificate.
Your DSC is loaded onto a Class 3 compatible USB token (or delivered as a .pfx file for Document Signer certificates).
Your token is shipped to your address, or you can collect it same-day from our Ghatkopar office.
From application to a working USB token, the entire process is remote and usually completes the same day.
You can create a free e-signature (a visual mark) with tools like Adobe Fill & Sign, but a legally valid Class 3 DSC must be issued by a licensed Certifying Authority, it isn't something you can generate yourself.
Most applications are verified the same day, with the physical token delivered within 1-7 working days depending on your location.
