What actually happens when a DSC expires

Once your Class 3 DSC passes its validity date, it stops working for signing anything, immediately, on every portal, regardless of how the token itself is functioning. This isn't a gradual thing, an expired certificate is simply rejected the moment you try to use it.

Getting back to working

1

Confirm it's actually expiry, not another error

Check the certificate's validity dates in your token management software, an expired certificate shows a clear expiry date in the past.

2

Apply for renewal

This is a fresh issuance requiring the same Aadhaar eKYC video verification as your original DSC, it isn't automatic.

3

Receive your renewed certificate

Often loaded onto your existing token if it's in good condition, or supplied on a new one.

4

Re-register on every portal you use

MCA, GST, Income Tax, DGFT, whichever apply, each needs the renewed certificate registered again individually.

If you're up against a deadline

Renewal verification and issuance can often be completed same-day if your documents are ready, tell us your deadline upfront so we can prioritise accordingly rather than discovering the urgency partway through.

Frequently asked questions

DSCs are issued for 1, 2 or 3 years, depending on what you choose at issuance, expiry is simply the end of that chosen period.

Yes, the entire renewal process, including identity verification, happens remotely, no physical visit needed.

Pricing is generally the same, since renewal is technically a fresh certificate issuance, you may save on token cost if reusing your existing one.
