The real differences

Both are Class 3 DSCs, the verification method and documentation is what differs.

Indian DSC

Standard Individual or Organization DSC for Indian residents and entities.

  • Aadhaar-based eKYC verification
  • PAN card required
  • Documentation is generally lighter
  • Domestic delivery timelines apply

Foreign DSC

For foreign nationals or overseas companies filing in India.

  • Passport-based identity verification instead of Aadhaar
  • More detailed documentation, often including apostilled/notarised papers
  • Same video verification call, adapted for passport confirmation
  • International delivery may apply if the applicant is genuinely overseas

When you'd need Foreign vs Indian

If you're a foreign national serving as a director or authorized signatory on an Indian company, or an overseas company itself filing in India, you need the Foreign category. Indian citizens and India-registered entities use the standard domestic category, regardless of where the individual happens to be physically located at the time.
