Registration Guide
The MCA and GST portals each have their own DSC registration quirks. Here's exactly how to get it right on both.
Your Class 3 digital certificate proves your identity, issued by a CCA-licensed Certifying Authority after Aadhaar eKYC verification. The digital signature is what you create using that certificate to sign a filing, cryptographically tying the document to you. MCA and GST both mandate this for company and LLP filings specifically, since individual taxpayers sometimes have Aadhaar e-Sign as an alternative, but registered entities generally don't.
Aadhaar-based video eKYC verifies your identity in minutes, no physical documents. Once verified, the CA issues your certificate, usually the same day, loaded onto a FIPS-compliant USB token. Driver installation is the one step people get stuck on, install the token manufacturer's driver before plugging it in, then restart your browser, this resolves most "token not detected" issues on first setup.
MCA V3 requires your DSC to be linked to your DIN or user profile before you can file. Log in, go to your profile, and use the "Register DSC" option, you'll need emBridge installed for the browser to detect your token. A common snag: if you've recently renewed your DSC, the old registration doesn't carry over, you must re-register the new certificate even if it's on the same token.
Under Register/Update DSC in your GST profile, select the authorized signatory and register the certificate. The GST portal is stricter about browser compatibility than MCA, Chrome or Edge with the signer utility installed works most reliably. If registration fails with a generic error, it's often the emSigner background service not running, restarting it usually fixes this without needing to redo the whole process.

Usually emBridge isn't installed or running, or the DIN entered doesn't match the DSC holder's PAN records. Reinstall emBridge and confirm your DIN details match exactly before retrying.
This is almost always the emSigner background utility not running. Restart it from your system tray, or reinstall it if restarting doesn't help, then retry registration.
Yes, the certificate itself works on both, but each portal requires its own registration step under your profile, one doesn't carry over to the other.
A renewed certificate needs to be re-registered on MCA even if it's loaded on the same token, the old registration was tied to the previous certificate specifically.
Chrome or Edge, with emBridge (for MCA) and the emSigner utility (for GST) installed. Safari and Firefox have more inconsistent support for these signing tools.
